Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips won’t join Manchester United because of his family.

Well, the rumours have started, and it was arguably only a matter of time before Manchester United were linked with Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips.

The Daily Star report that the Red Devils have turned their attention away from West Ham man Declan Rice and are now looking at Phillips.

They claim that the Whites want £60million for the midfielder, and we just can’t see it happening for one major reason.

The 25-year-old is born and bred in Leeds, the Red Devils are traditionally Leeds’ biggest rivals, and though some players have crossed the divide, we can’t see Phillips following that pattern.

Patrick Bamford has also claimed that Phillips’ family hate Manchester United, so we can’t imagine he would be too popular if he decided to leave Elland Road [Hylo Athletics via the Daily Mirror].

Also, £60million for a player that is important to Leeds is not actually that much money, and if Rice is worth £100million, then we believe Phillips is worth at least £80million [Daily Telegraph].

Unfortunately, he will always be linked with Champions League sides because he is a quality player who is English and seems to get better and better in most games.

He has also been described as “outstanding” by Gareth Southgate [Evening Standard].

So it was only going to be a matter of time before the likes of Manchester United were linked but given his bond with the Leeds fans, we can’t see him going there.

Hopefully, Phillips stays with the Whites for the majority of his career, but you just know that at some point, the club are going to receive some big bids for him.

In other Leeds United news, Phillips has lauded praise on one of his teammates.
