Leeds United should ramp up efforts to sign James Garner after star display yesterday

Jesse Marsch may have only had one game in charge of Leeds United so far but he will already have one eye on the summer transfer window.

One of the bigger holes in the Whites’ team might be in central midfield if the various reports linking Kalvin Phillips with a move away from Elland Road prove to be true (The Mirror is just one of those anticipating an exit).

So Leeds’ new American head coach will need to find a replacement for the England international and maybe one is making himself known across the country.

Nottingham Forest’s fantastic run to the FA Cup quarter-finals has seen a number of their best players touted for Premier League moves should Steve Cooper not manage to get them up himself.

One of those linked with a switch to Elland Road is on-loan Manchester United midfielder James Garner [The Sun] who starred for the Reds against Huddersfield last night with an assist and 77 touches in a commanding display [Emirates FA Cup on Twitter].

The 20-year-old is still under contract at Old Trafford next season and the rivalry between the two clubs may cause some issues in the negotiating process with Southampton also keen on the England Under-23 international.

Marsch needs someone like Garner on his team and he has to make the club’s board aware of it so they can do whatever is necessary to prize him away from the Red Devils.

Another arrow to his quiver, along with a bundle of energy and exquisite ability on the ball, is his set-piece prowess that has seen him bag more goal contributions than your standard holding midfielder should.

Pinpoint crosses and a knack at finding the top corner when shooting from a dead ball is something severely lacking from the current Leeds squad and this seems like the perfect time to rectify that.

In other Leeds United news, Micah Richards and Chris Sutton came to blows live on air as they discussed the Whites ahead of their game against Aston Villa.
