Leeds United should prove Pope wrong and sign Buendia to seal Farke promotion
Leeds United are one of the best teams in the Championship this season which is shown by the position they’re sitting at in the table.
The Whites’ attack has been one of the most prolific forces in the league this term despite the fact that Daniel Farke chooses to interchange Joel Piroe and Mateo Joseph for the number nine position each week.
However, if they want to guarantee themselves promotion to the top tier by the end of the campaign, the best way for them to do that could be by bringing Emi Buendia to Elland Road.
The Argentinian has been linked with the Whites since the summer, while Angus Kinnear admitted contact was made with Villa (the Square Ball) over the attacking midfielder, who was a regular for Farke at Norwich.
Farke has said he’s expecting a quiet January window but it feels like some moves could be made if the right opportunities arise.
However, if that is the case, BBC Leeds journalist Adam Pope doesn’t think Buendia will be making the switch to West Yorkshire which is why Farke needs to prove him wrong in January.
“Emi Buendia has been linked before but the one-time Aston Villa record signing’s arrival at Elland Road even after only playing 48 minutes of Premier League football this season seems unlikely,” he wrote via the BBC Sport website (29 December).
Why would Emi Buendia guarantee Leeds United promotion?
Since the start of the season, Brenden Aaronson has found himself on a bit of a redemption arc in West Yorkshire and although there have been times when his form has been questioned, he seems to have found himself in a purple patch recently.
However, as Leeds’ only natural number 10, there’s a lot of pressure upon the shoulders of the US international to perform and be the link between the midfield and attack.
With the addition of Buendia to their ranks, Farke would be able to swap the former RB Salzburg man out with the Aston Villa playmaker and perhaps add some more creativity to his team.

In addition to this, the last time the 28-year-old had a season in the second tier, he contributed to 31 goals and assists which would more than make up for the exit of Crysencio Summerville in the summer.
Of course, he’s not guaranteed to get those sorts of numbers again but it feels like their chances of promotion would be an awful lot stronger with him among their ranks.
In other Leeds news, a promotion rival player’s camp have claimed that the Whites want to sign him.
