Leeds United ‘risk major ridicule’ after shocking £18m reveal

Leeds United are on course for a Premier League return, though they have gone to extreme measures to achieve that.

With four games remaining in the Championship, Leeds look destined to secure Premier League football for the new campaign.

It felt as though promotion was sealed after the win against Sheffield United, but a drop in form after that saw the race wide open again.

However, if the white can secure a victory in their next league encounter, they will take one step closer to promotion, though a failure to do so will open them up to a lot of ridicule.

FA reveal showcases huge Leeds flaw

Leeds United will be in for a busy summer transfer window if they are successful in their attempts to return to the Premier League, and they will need to invest.

However, since dropping out of the top flight, it seems as though they have been investing, albeit in the wrong areas, with a reveal from the FA via Henry Winter on X showing that Leeds spent over £18 million on agent fees over the last calendar year.

Burnley are second while Sheffield United are third, though no team in the Championship comes even close to the amount of money spent by Leeds in that regard.

ChampionshipAgent fees
Leeds£18,836,447
Burnley£5,305,608
Sheffield United£4,442,940
How much the three promotion favourites have paid to agents in the last year.

In fact, from all 24 championship club, just over £60 million has been spent on agent fees, with Leeds contributing to nearly a third of that.

Now, as unlikely as it appears to be at this stage, if Leeds somehow fail to get promoted, that reveal will open them up to a whole lot of ridicule.

Daniel Farke needs to be backed this summer

Spending money doesn’t necessarily guarantee you safety in the Premier League; see the three relegated teams as an example of that.

However, investment is key, and Leeds need to recruit well this summer if they are to have any chance of avoiding a repeat of the failure demonstrated by the three teams that were promoted last season.
