Leeds United prove transfer appeal as Lewis Pirie deal agreed with Aberdeen

Leeds United are currently undergoing a busy summer, with plenty of change taking place both on and off the pitch at the Elland Road club.

Their relegation from the Premier League has unsurprisingly complicated matters, with that relegation set to directly lead to struggles in the transfer window.

First and foremost, it means the West Yorkshire outfit are certain to lose several senior players who will not want to stick around to play Championship football next season.

Moreover, not only will there be fewer funds available for new faces, but being in the second division means it will be harder to attract players to come to Elland Road.

The Whites have, however, convinced Aberdeen striker Lewis Pirie to make the switch, with LUFC Youth posting on Twitter (1 July) that Leeds have agreed a deal to sign the Scotland Under-16s player.

It will be welcome news to Whites supporters, with the club thinking about the future with this latest deal.

While they have plenty of issues in the final third, the upcoming campaign will more than likely arrive too soon for Pirie to make his way into the first team, with a starring role for the club’s youth teams the most likely outcome.

Many supporters will want the senior attacking issue to be sorted this summer, but it’s certainly not a bad thing that they are already building for future seasons with a player former boss Jim Goodwin admitted in December was an “exciting” prospect [via Leeds Live, 1 July].

Another added bonus with the deal is that Leeds have proven they still hold plenty of appeal, with Pirie having been chased by Crystal Palace, Celtic and Sheffield United, according to the Daily Record (1 July).

There is indeed another bonus with the deal, with Leeds not exactly breaking the bank with the six-figure fee for the 16-year-old.

In other Leeds United news, one Whites ace is making a “great financial effort” to quit Elland Road this summer.
