Leeds United presented perfect chance to cash in on Illan Meslier as contract concerns arise
Leeds have a great opportunity to make money on Illan Meslier in the January transfer window.
The goalkeeper has become almost a forgotten player at Elland Road after dramatically falling down the pecking order.
As a result, Leeds tried to offload Meslier in the summer, but to no avail.
Now, this could end up costing the Peacocks, with the goalkeeper out on contract in the summer and is able to sign pre-contract agreements with clubs outside of England in January.
Therefore, there is a good chance that Leeds will lose the 25-year-old in the coming months for nothing. However, if Daniel Farke plays his cards right, this should not be the case.

Inter and AC Milan are battling for Illan Meslier
Reports have recently emerged that Inter and AC Milan are interested in Meslier.
Both clubs see that goalkeeper as a potential bargain, and will look to pursue his signature when his contract expires in the summer.
- Meslier is no longer Leeds’ first-choice goalkeeper
- A series of terrible mistakes last season saw him dropped from the starting XI
- Now the goalkeeper is an outcast in Leeds’ squad
However, Leeds should look to use this interest to their advantage and look to bring in some cash for the goalkeeper, a situation that looked highly unlikely going into January.
Given the rivalry of both Milan clubs, neither will want to lose out on Meslier’s signature to the other.
Therefore, Leeds should look to offer both clubs a chance to secure the goalkeeper’s services before the January transfer window opens.
This way, it allows the West Yorkshire club to make money on Meslier’s departure through a transfer fee.
Both Milan clubs are likely to agree to this as they will be too paranoid that their rival will enter negotiations, meaning that they will miss out on the goalkeeper’s signature.

Which other Leeds players have their contract expiring in the summer?
On top of Meslier, goalkeeping duo Karl Darlow and Alex Cairns are out of contract in the summer.
Sam Byram is also set to leave Leeds in the summer as it stands, with no new contract currently in sight.
There were previously claims that Byram could sign a new deal at Leeds in the summer, but this has not come to be.
Considering his lack of game time this season, it would be a surprise if his deal was extended as it stands.
