Leeds United player ratings v Norwich City as Archie Gray destroyed

Leeds United returned to Championship action on Saturday 21 October with a tricky trip to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City, ending in a stunning 3-2 win.

Daniel Farke stuck with the same starting side that beat Bristol City before the break, but at one stage had six attackers on the pitch as he pushed for a result.

Crysencio Summerville was the hero in the end, scoring twice to bag all three points for the Whites despite being two goals behind at half-time.

MOT Leeds News rated the players out of 10 below…

Illan Meslier – 5

It wasn’t the best afternoon for the Frenchman, who once again looked awfully fragile when defending set-pieces, conceding from one and being saved by a foul from another. He did make one big save from a free-kick in the second half though.

Archie Gray – 3

The young midfielder was trusted at right-back once again, but with much different results. Going up against Onel Hernandez, he was bypassed easily and his three appearances over the international break caught up with him, clearly.

Joe Rodon – 6

After a shaky start at the back from everyone, which included a booking for the Welshman, he grew with the game and did start to dominate on and off the ball. Farke may push his side to try and get a grip of games much quicker after this one though.

Pascal Struijk – 7

The skipper was the standout man at the back if there was one, with his pace certainly helping against the likes of Adam Idah, who was a threat all afternoon. When a last-gasp clearance was needed, it was usually Struijk of the end of it, with a grilling for his teammates following.

Leeds United

Sam Byram – 5

Gray wasn’t the only full-back to struggle, with Byram also slaughtered down his side in that opening 45 minutes. It definitely improved as the game went on, but these sorts of players need to assert themselves more quickly to avoid errors.

Ethan Ampadu – 7

This signing is exactly what Leeds were missing in the Premier League last season, with Ampadu popping up everywhere in each third of the pitch. He will admit it was a sloppy start with his mistake leading to the corner for the opening goal, but he asserted himself further in each minute after that.

Glen Kamara – 5

A strange afternoon for Kamara, who did look smart in possession, but maybe didn’t get involved enough. His one contribution in the final third was a huge missed chance when through on goal, and he was quickly replaced when the first subs came on with his defensive work not good enough.

Crysencio Summerville – 9

Wow. Summerville has been threatening for many weeks to unleash on someone, and unfortunately for Norwich, it was them. The Canaries could simply not handle the flying Dutchman, and he tormented them constantly and his two goals were reward for that.

Leeds United

Georginio Rutter – 6

There were some smart touches as we have come to expect of Rutter, but his final product was simply not good enough with another poor miss and his final pass sometimes lacking.

Dan James – 8

The lightning-quick winger picked up another assist, if you can call it that for the own goal and his pace was a massive danger again, and the fact he is finally finding that end product is making him nearly undroppable now.

Joel Piroe – 4

It is hard to judge Piroe consistently as he rarely gets involved in games – he either scores or does relatively nothing. This was the latter, unfortunately, as he missed a couple of big chances.

Leeds United Substitutes;

Willy Gnonto – 6, Patrick Bamford – 5, Jaidon Anthony – 5, Liam Cooper – N/A, Luke Ayling – N/A.
