Leeds United: Georginio Rutter form could yield mega-money move away from Elland Road

Georginio Rutter may have taken time to get going at Leeds United, but the Frenchman is now showing why he cost as much as he did.

Eyebrows were raised when the Whites splashed out a club-record fee of £35.5million to sign Rutter from Hoffenheim in January 2023.

Leeds’ form and Rutter’s minimal impact in the second half of last season’s Premier League campaign did little to switch the narrative.

How much is Georginio Rutter worth at Leeds United?

However, the 21-year-old has been one of the standout performers in the Championship this season in what has been a fine campaign for Leeds.

Rutter has six goals and a league-leading 15 assists from 37 appearances, with his all-around impact playing a huge part in this promotion push.

Indeed, Rutter’s quality has seen him ranked number one on the CIES Football Observatory’s list of most valuable Championship players.

In a report published on Wednesday (20 March), Rutter is given a valuation of €41.5m (£35.6m), which is in line with what Leeds paid for him.

Rutter will have four years to run on his contract at Elland Road come the summer, so Leeds are in no rush to sell just yet.

At the same time, should Rutter’s form continue and Leeds fail to earn promotion back to the Premier League, the vultures may start circling.

Daniel Farke has done brilliantly to get the most out of Rutter in a deeper position, and his performances will not have gone unnoticed.

Who are the most valuable Championship players?

Incidentally, Wilfried Gnonto and Crysencio Summerville are the next two names on that list of the Championship’s most valuable players.

That means Leeds make up the top three, who are said to be worth a combined €118.4 (£101.5m). Archie Gray is seventh at €27.7m (£23.8m).

The ideal scenario for United is that they are back in the Premier League next season with each of those in their squad.

However, if that target is not achieved – whether automatically or via the play-offs – it may well be that some of those players will be off.

And in Rutter, there is not a single player anywhere in the Championship who can raise more funds if required.
