Leeds United may have another Archie Gray on their hands as Charlie Crew gets Wales recognition

Leeds United may have unearthed the long-term midfield partner for Archie Gray as fellow teen Charlie Crew has earned recognition on the international stage.

The 17-year-old took part in training with the senior Wales squad on Monday [4 September] ahead of the Dragons’ upcoming fixtures, according to LUFC Youth on Twitter.

Crew joined Leeds from Cardiff City for a reported six-figure sum last summer [Wales Online] and he has since signed a professional contract at Elland Road.

That was a show of faith from Leeds after clearly spotting something in the youngster during his time in South Wales.

Crew appears to be on an upward curve towards first-team football before long, as he quickly advanced from the U18 side to the U21s last season, playing 10 times for the latter in Premier League 2 as they earned promotion.

As captain of the Wales U17 side and now training with the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Tottenham’s new £47.5million man Brennan Johnson, it is clear Crew is highly thought of by his country.

Working alongside Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon at Wales’ Vale Resort HQ, it may now be a matter of time before Crew is himself selected as part of Daniel Farke’s senior squad.

It is a hugely promising development for Leeds, who have seen fellow youngster Gray shine in central midfield since making his debut against Crew’s old club Cardiff last month.

If the Welshman can make a similar sort of impact, then United’s midfield will be well-stocked for a number of years to come.
