Leeds United must step up Nathaniel Adjei chase as Coventry join transfer race

Leeds United must step up their chase for Hammarby centre-back Nathaniel Adjei after Alan Nixon reported Coventry have joined the race for his signature.

The Sun journalist shared via his Patreon [26 November] that Mark Robins’ side have funds to go towards his signing which has given them the edge over other Championship rivals Preston North End.

Leeds have been linked with a move for the defender by Dutch outlet VoetbalKrant [21 November] as they look to strengthen their backline.

Nixon also reported that the defender will cost a hefty fee, but Coventry are confident they can make an offer to give Hammarby something to think about, with a price tag of £3million likely to be enough to tempt them into selling, an achievable fee for Leeds.

With Pascal Struijk, Liam Cooper and Joe Rodon the main choices for the middle of Daniel Farke’s defence, Adjei would face a tough task trying to earn first-team football, but could provide stable cover to the trio with a view to working his way into the side in the future.

At just 21 years old, Adjei has made 21 league appearances for his club so far this season, picking up plenty of experience and attracting interest from the likes of Leeds, Coventry, Preston and Rangers and the race hots up for his signature.

With the news that Coventry have money to spend and are prepared to do so on Adjei, Leeds should pick up the pace in their bid for the Ghanaian in a bid to strengthen their squad while preventing rivals from strengthening theirs.

If this transfer did come through, it would likely spell an end to Charlie Cresswell’s Leeds career, as he has struggled for game time all year and would fall further down the pecking order with the arrival of another defender at Thorp Arch.
