Leeds United must sign Lewis O’Brien

Leeds United have been recently linked with a move for Huddersfield Town’s Lewis O’Brien by Alan Nixon – and he could be a fantastic addition to the Whites.

O’Brien is just 22 but made 42 appearances in the Championship during the 2020/21 league campaign, and in that time, he scored three goals and provided three assists [WhoScored].

This isn’t an incredible return, but according to WhoScored, in tackles and interceptions per game, O’Brien made more of both than Mateusz Kilch.

He was also very close to Klich in terms of passing accuracy and key passes per game, with the Pole only slightly ahead of O’Brien [WhoScored].

The 22-year-old has also spent a year playing for Corberan, who before that had been with Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds.

So, the Spaniard has probably picked up a few things from Bielsa, and if O’Brien were to make that move to Elland Road, you would think that he has probably at least trained in a similar way to how Bielsa trains his players.

Another reason why Leeds should sign O’Brien is because he would be available for around about £4m, according to the Sun.

So, this would be a cheap deal that could be completed easily and, as already mentioned, he would perhaps provide some more bite than Klich, who is now 31.

Leeds also have very few options in the centre of midfield, so bringing in O’Brien would give Bielsa some more options there, which can only be a good thing.

Another huge thing that cannot be ignored is that Corberan himself claimed that O’Brien is “excellent” and thinks he already is a “Premier League player” [YorkshireLive via Leeds Live].

So there are a lot of things going for O’Brien, and if Leeds make a move for him, it is hard to see how they will regret it.
