Leeds United must sign Amad Diallo in January, he will guarantee a top-two finish

The next four months promise to be pretty huge for Leeds United and their supporters.

The Whites are nicely primed in the Championship, albeit they will feel the seven-point gap to Ipswich Town could be a little closer.

Still, fourth in the table and 19 games still to play there remains huge hope that Daniel Farke can orchestrate a top-two finish at Elland Road this season.

And there is one play who has been linked with a move to West Yorkshire this January who would go a long way to ensuring that happens.

That man is Amad Diallo.

Now, we all know there is absolutely no love lost between Leeds and Manchester United, the cross-Pennines rivals absolutely detest each other.

But the two clubs have done business before and the Mirror wrote in its print edition on Thursday (18 January) that Leeds are among the teams tracking a loan deal for the 21-year-old.

The Red Devils are said to be weighing up whether or not to sanction a temporary exit for Diallo, once labelled “unbelievable” by former Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray (Sports Illustrated, 9 December 2022), given he has been injured for four months.

Diallo spent last season on loan with the Black Cats and was an excellent performer in a team that reached the playoffs.

In total he scored 13 goals from an expected goals rate of 8.11, provided three assists and creating 40 chances for his teammates (FotMob).

There is big competition at Elland Road in the forward areas but Wilfried Gnonto has again been linked with a move away with West Ham said to be keen on taking him to east London (Sacha Tavolieri, January 18).

Of course, he would still have to compete with likes of Crysencio Summerville and Dan James, who have been in superb form this season.

But adding a player of Diallo’s quality at this juncture could really prove the difference between making the top two and settling for a spot in the playoffs.

In other Leeds United news, Daniel Farke has reportedly sanctioned a loan exit for one midfielder.
