Leeds United must come out swinging v Arsenal, their future depends on it

Leeds United find themselves right back in the relegation mire after their 4-0 defeat to Manchester City was compounded by Everton and Burnley winning.

The Toffees shocked everyone by edging a tight affair at home to Chelsea 1-0 while the Clarets came from 1-0 down to win away at Watford and all but secure the Hornets’ own relegation.

The Whites now sit just two points clear of Frank Lampard’s Everton who occupies the final spot in the drop zone but they have a game in hand on Jesse Marsch’s side.

For all the fight and guile Leeds showed when the 48-year-old American arrived at Thorp Arch, they now face the prospect of needing to win far more regularly to maintain their Premier League status for another season.

Manchester City wasn’t a game that they were ever likely to win but the manner of their defeat won’t have pleased Marsch who expects far more from his players no matter the opposition in front of them.

Two more very tough fixtures are to come with Arsenal away this weekend followed by the visit of Chelsea to Elland Road the following midweek.

There is the boost of having Brighton and Brentford as their final two games but they would still be underdogs in those games too if the table is anything to go by.

Marsch needs to gather his troops in some kind of team/crisis meeting and find out who is ready and waiting to fight for their lives and who is happy to be on the ride.

Only those willing to risk it all for the football club can be seen on the pitch until the end of the season because if they don’t do that, they will find themselves a Championship side next season and that is the last thing they can afford.

In other Leeds United news, a reliable journalist is in the belief that Marsch is considering major changes to his backroom staff over the summer.
