Leeds United must act to make January move for Calvin Ramsay after Pep Lijnders ‘game time’ admission at Liverpool
It is no secret that Leeds United could do with defensive reinforcement before the end of the transfer window.
With Djed Spence having returned to Tottenham, and subsequently departed again for Genoa, and Luke Ayling have left for Middlesbrough on loan there is a lack of options in the full-back areas.
Pascal Struijk’s continued absence due to injury is also posing a problem for Daniel Farke, who has spoken of the need to be alert in the closing days of the window.
One player who has been linked with a loan move to Elland Road this month is Liverpool youngster Calvin Ramsay with Mail Plus writing on January 22 that the Reds will make a decision on where to send him shortly.
Ramsey spent the first half of the campaign with Preston but was recalled after only making two appearances for Ryan Lowe’s men.
Liverpool assistant Pep Lijnders, speaking at a news conference on Tuesday in quotes reported by LeedsLive (24 January), suggested his next move will need to be one where here is more guarantee of minutes.
“There is interest, which is good. We have to find with the agent, with himself, with the clubs the right decision for the player,” he said,
“He needs to have game-time, he needs to play and have a lot of success. That’s why I liked the move of Fabio [Carvalho] for example (who joined Hull City) with Tyler [Morton].
“Our head of loans Matt Newberry needs a holiday after this for sure! These boys all have potential otherwise they would not be with use but they need the right pathway. A good loan can do wonders.”

Leeds were also linked with Carvalho before he moved to Hull but unlike with the attacking midfielder where they couldn’t guarantee regular minutes, there is surely far more of an opportunity for Ramsay to play.
In a position where Leeds need some bodies and an admission from Liverpool that they want to send him out, surely the stars are aligning for a late January move on this one.
