Leeds United must act quickly to sign Nottingham Forest ace Neco Williams after Premier League announcement

Leeds United may not get a better opportunity to sign Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams, despite Nuno Espirito Santo wanting to keep him.

After Djed Spence and Luke Ayling were allowed to leave the club this month, Daniel Farke has admitted that the Whites are in the market for new options at full-back.

According to Phil Hay, one of the names that has been brought up regularly is Forest ace Williams but there was resistance as the Premier League club look to keep hold of him with their new manager a fan of the player.

But it was announced on Monday night (15 January) by the Premier League that Forest have been hit with charges relating to FFP and Profit and Sustainability rules, meaning the club are clearly suffering financially despite the charges being labelled “unfair”.

Telegraph journalist John Percy then revealed that the club are operating on a “net-zero” policy for the January transfer window, which could see a perfect opportunity for Leeds to swoop.

The 49ers have got plenty of money in the bank, but also there is a clear need to bring in a player in those positions who can bolster the squad and make the team better. Obviously if that can be done, then promotion to the Premier League would have a better chance of happening too.

Since the summer the club have worked dilligently to give the manager exactly what he wants and needs in the transfer market, and there’s no reason for that to stop now.

If Leeds approach Forest and make a more than fair offer to bring in the Wales international then there’s no reason why a deal can’t be done.

It would justify the decision to let Spence and Ayling leave, and it would justify not going all-out to sign Williams in the summer too.

The club will no doubt have to act quickly to get a deal done because Forest have got plenty of players that will be attracting interest from other clubs that could ease their issues, but the solution to the problems at Elland Road have now shown themselves clearly.
