Leeds United must accept Wilfried Gnonto exit now or never as transfer news emerges

Leeds United have lost a long list of senior players this summer following their relegation from the Premier League in May.

That was perhaps expected at Elland Road, but the club really haven’t brought in a substantial amount of replacements for their outgoing stars.

The likes of Rodrigo, Rasmus Kristensen, Robin Koch, Marc Roca and Max Wober – all of whom played central roles last season – have exited in recent months.

New manager Daniel Farke has had plenty to do behind the scenes at Elland Road, but new signatures have seemingly not been a priority, with only Karl Darlow, Ethan Ampadu and Sam Byram brought in so far.

And it could be another exit up next for the Whites instead of another incoming, with newly-promoted Burnley eyeing star winger Wilfried Gnonto [The Telegraph, 7 August].

The youngster started and played 82 minutes in the 2-2 draw with Cardiff City on Saturday (5 August), showing that he is definitely a part of Farke’s plans going forward. It means he should be kept at Elland Road, unless of course an offer comes in that the Whites simply cannot refuse.

But Leeds are running out of time to receive such an offer, with the club in real danger of receiving that offer right at the end of the window, leaving them no time at all to find a replacement.

It means they must do their utmost to put the saga to an end immediately by persuading the youngster to stay, or by selling him on for a substantial fee as soon as possible.

The West Yorkshire outfit have plenty of wide players in their squad, with Crysencio Summerville, Luis Sinisterra, Dan James and Ian Poveda all featuring against the Bluebirds, along with Gnonto.

And the young Italian was entrusted with a central forward role, emphasising just how much he is needed at Elland Road thanks to his versatility.

In other Leeds United news, Tyler Adams has sent a seven-word message to one Whites teammate after his debut for the club.
