Leeds United: Mergim Berisha has potential to rival Patrick Bamford
Jesse Marsch is still very active in the transfer window and he wants a new attacker to join him at Leeds United before the new season begins.
One man on the American’s radar is German Under-21 international Mergim Berisha who used to play for Marsch’s old side RB Salzburg, although he was loaned out on a number of occasions before a move to Fenerbahce.
Turkish journalist Ahmet Selin Kul reported on Twitter on 23 July that the Whites were keen to make a deal happen but they are only monitoring the situation at this moment in time.
It has been no secret that Leeds are in the market for a new number nine having been forced to play the likes of Daniel James and Jack Harrison out of position last season with Patrick Bamford injured.
Even Joe Gelhardt had to start more games than initially planned due to the England international’s constant sick note and even though he is back to fitness now, Bamford has to be looking over his shoulder at who may be coming in.
Berisha in particular is someone to be wary of having enjoyed his best goal-scoring season under Marsch at Salzburg where he won three Austrian Bundesliga and Cup doubles between 2016 and 2020.

That will be a major reason why he is on the Leeds United radar this summer and unless the American is planning to play two strikers, he could threaten Bamford’s first-choice position at Elland Road.
But that debacle might actually be the best thing that could happen to Leeds right now to ensure that there can be no complacency from either player and with both of them pushing each other to the maximum, goals could be flowing all over the place in Yorkshire.
In other Leeds United news, Victor Orta is willing to listen to offers for this injury-hit Whites player and a permanent exit could be on the cards.
