Leeds United may have learned Charlie Cresswell exit destination after latest Fabrizio Romano update

Leeds United may already know the most likely destination for Charlie Cresswell in the January transfer window after Fabrizio Romano shared that Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga has joined Millwall.

The transfer journalist shared the news via his Twitter page on 18 January, reporting that the deal would be a straight loan with no buy clause until the end of the season.

This comes after journalist Alan Nixon reported via his Patreon [14 January] that Millwall were set to go head-to-head with Blackburn for Cresswell’s signature, and with the Lions now likely out of the running, his potential destination is clear.

Millwall’s decision to move for another option ahead of Cresswell has seemingly given Blackburn a free run at the Leeds defender, with an asking price of £4million placed on his possible move, as Rovers have come to the table with “serious cash” according to Nixon.

Cresswell has made just four Championship appearances under Daniel Farke this season, with only one of those coming from the start, as he has often been completely missing from matchday squads as a result of the competition in his position.

This has increased speculation about his future, making it the most likely option that the defender would look to leave Elland Road in the transfer window, despite agreeing to a new contract in the summer.

Nixon also claimed that, with Leeds’ £4million price tag set, there would be the possibility to negotiate a lower fee with add-ons, and Blackburn could offer half the money in a test of their resolve – although that seems unlikely to tempt the Yorkshire club.

With Blackburn hopeful of making a late push for the playoff places, they could prove to be direct promotion rivals to Leeds – and clubs they should avoid strengthening unless the deal is right for them.

If they stick to their price tag over Cresswell, they may not see him leave after all, so either they receive the money they want for improving a potential rival team, or they don’t and they can hold on until the summer to get a deal done.
