Leeds United ‘have Buendia transfer answer’ after Aston Villa announcement
Leeds United have had a great season so far, but Daniel Farke will know that he has to add faces to his squad to ensure they can keep up their momentum.
The Whites currently sit at the top of the Championship but are just one point clear of Sheffield United, showing how tight it is at the top.
Therefore, with plenty of football still to be played, nothing is guaranteed yet and the winter transfer window could prove to play its part in the final outcome of the season.
Farke has hinted at a quiet transfer window for his side, but with top scorer Joel Piroe having scored only 10 goals so far, the boss will know that more is needed from an attacking perspective to maintain promotion form.
There have been strong links between the German and his former player Emi Buendia regarding an arrival at Elland Road during the window.
However, Villa announced the 28-year-old in their starting line-up for their Champions League tie against Monaco on Tuesday (21 January), which could be the nail in the coffin for Leeds’ hopes.
Emi Buendia has his sights set past Leeds United
Unai Emery [via Birmingham Live, 19 January] recently suggested that the attacking midfielder will be allowed to leave Aston Villa during the transfer window.
Given the 28-year-old has made just 11 Premier League appearances this term, all of which have come from the bench, this does not come as a surprise.
Furthermore, the Whites were linked with a move for Farke’s former player back in the summer, so it was not unexpected to see them go in for the player again.
However, the fact he has been selected to start such a big game is pretty telling, and surely means he is still part of Emery’s plans going forward.
Starting a Champions League game will no doubt serve as a reminder that he wishes to play at the best level possible.

While Leeds are looking upwards towards the Premier League, there is no guarantee promotion is on the cards, in which case the current Premier League player will find himself in the second tier.
However, a move elsewhere could offer more optimistic opportunities which could suit the player’s desires more which, after his start on Tuesday, may be at the front of his mind.
Either way, the decision to start Buendia may well have given Leeds their answer as to whether to bother pursuing this move.
