Leeds United may announce Glen Kamara transfer today after Djed Spence

Leeds United could be set to announce their second signing of the day with Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara closing in on a move to Elland Road this summer.

The Whites revealed the arrival of Djed Spence on loan from Tottenham for the season early on Wednesday morning (30 August) and could be set to unveil a second new addition as the end of the transfer window nears closer, with Kamara’s switch to the Championship close.

Daniel Farke’s side submitted an official bid for the Rangers midfielder on Sunday [Fabrizio Romano, 26 August] with the Finnish international keen on a move to Elland Road this summer, having been training on his own in Glasgow.

The Herald then reported on Monday (28 August) that the deal was in its closing stages with a £5million fee set to be paid to the Scottish giants for Kamara as the Whites finally had the funds to push the deal over the finish line.

Leeds have needed reinforcements in midfield all summer, with so many players departing Elland Road following the Whites’ relegation to the Championship, Farke has been left short of bodies in the middle of the park in the early stages of the Championship season.

17-year-old Archie Gray has played nearly every minute in the Championship so far this season and started both matches in the Carabao Cup and while he is an exciting young talent, Leeds cannot be forced to rely on him alone in midfield, making Kamara all the more important a signing.

The Rangers midfielder has experience playing both internationally and in Europe, being a mainstay in the Gers side that reached the Europa League final in the 2021/22 season as well as playing 33 times as Steven Gerrard guided the Light Blues to the Scottish Premiership title.

With over 52 international appearances to his name as well, the 27-year-old will add some much-needed experience and no-how into the middle of the park at Elland Road. Having represented his country nearly ten times as often as Gray has played for his club side, he will only help the young midfielder’s development.

Leeds look to be completing the sort of signings that a club who will be at the right end of the table should be making, with both Spence’s arrival and Kamara’s imminent arrival indications to the rest of the Championship to be aware.

Should both players arrive on the same day, United will have purchased the best right-back to play in the Championship in the 2021/22 campaign, as well as one of Scotland’s greatest-ever bargain signings with European and domestic pedigree.

With Wilfried Gnonto and Luis Siniesterra set to remain at Elland Road as well, Farke is building a squad with talent all over the pitch, and he is doing it quite quickly without really having to break the bank for any new additions.

What is so beneficial about the potential arrival of Kamara is the fact he should be incredibly fresh to make an impact in England’s second tier, having not yet played for Rangers this season. The International break will offer him a chance to get some minutes in his legs to hit the ground running with Leeds.
