Leeds United may already have perfect replacement lined up in Ben Brereton Diaz if worst happens with Crysencio Summerville
There was quite an interesting update on Leeds United and their interest in a long-term target that emerged on Wednesday.
It was reported by the Sheffield Star (3 January) that Premier League strugglers Sheffield United are lining up a loan move for Ben Brereton Diaz.
The Chile forward is reportedly available for a move despite only moving to LaLiga side Villarreal in the summer, having struggled to break into the team.

Leeds have long-been linked with the former Blackburn Rovers ace with Estadio Deportivo reporting as recently as December 17 that they were among the clubs linked with a deal.
Then later on Wednesday, broadcaster Ben Jacobs posted on X to say that Sheffield United were indeed discussing a loan but without a purchase option.
More interestingly, he added that Leeds still have him on their radar and that he could be option in the summer if they get promoted.
“Sheffield United are trying to sign Villarreal striker Ben Brereton Díaz on loan. No option to buy being discussed. Brereton Diaz remains on Leeds’ radar. They could still explore something this summer if they get promoted,” Jabobs wrote.
It is all rather interesting and points to one train of thought, even if no one really wants to think about it.
Brereton Diaz would be the ideal replacement for Crysencio Summerville. The winger has been in flying form in the Championship this season with 12 goals and six assists to his name in the league.
It has meant the obvious links to Premier League sides have started to arrive with Aston Villa previously linked and Newcastle United are reportedly revisiting previous interest according to Football Transfers (3 January).
With Leeds fourth in the table and seven points back of second it does not seem likely they will cash in on their prized asset during the January transfer window.
But if the worst happens in the long term and Summerville does depart Elland Road then maybe, just maybe, they already have the perfect replacement lined up in Brereton Diaz.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites could soon call the agent of a player they want to make their first January signing.
