Leeds United ‘make terrible call on Mateo Joseph’ after what happened v Coventry

Leeds United must surely regret rejecting a bid for Mateo Joseph after what happened against Coventry City on Wednesday.

The Whites secured yet another three points in their mission to secure promotion to the Premier League, winning 2-0 away at the Coventry Building Society Arena on 5 February.

First-half goals from Joel Piroe and Jayden Bogle were the difference against Frank Lampard’s side as chances in the second 45 went begging.

Given that Daniel Farke’s side turned down a lucrative £8.2million bid for Joseph in the winter [El Desmarque], they may now live to regret that decision.

Coming into the season, the Spain Under-21s international looked like he was going to be “The Guy” for Leeds this campaign.

Despite making a positive start to the year, the goals have dried up for the 21-year-old, who has been ousted by Joel Piroe as a regular starter.

With just three goals and three assists across 30 Championship appearances, this doesn’t come as a surprise and it does appear that Farke doesn’t fully trust the youngster.

This was shown against Coventry when the ex-Espanyol youngster was afforded just four minutes of action off the bench.

This gave him no time to impress or make an impression on the game as the Whites looked to see out a comfortable 2-0 win away from home.

If that is all the minutes that the head coach is willing to offer Joseph, he was better off selling him and accepting the large sum of money that was offered.

Everyone at Elland Road knows how much potential the striker has, and how much he could be worth, but if he isn’t trusted then there is little use for him in LS11.
