Leeds United to make Joel Piroe decision amid ‘interesting’ transfer development
Leeds United and Daniel Farke will no doubt be looking to gain automatic promotion in 2024/25 after falling at the last hurdle last season.
The Whites are once again one of the favourites to win the title and are set to face stiff competition from the likes of Sheffield United and Scott Parker’s Burnley.
Although the West Yorkshire outfit are one of the strongest teams in the Championship, this doesn’t come without its own risks.
One of they key reasons as to why Farke’s side are so strong is because of the quality of their players.
Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto are just two of the names that spring to mind in terms of those who have been linked with moves away [The Times, 15 July].
Should players of their calibre continually exit the club, they’ll find themselves in a sticky situation.
Joel Piroe is another player whose future has been in the balance, and it seems that, thanks to an update from Graeme Bailey, Leeds now have a decision to make in terms of what to do with their number nine.
“We think that is the case [Leeds signing a striker]. We are hearing that Piroe may be on the move and Bamford is available as we know,” Bailey said to Leeds United News [13 July].
“There is still quite a lot to happen at Elland Road with the squad, might be one in, one out. Farke wants a bit more and I think he will bring a striker in.
“There is interest in Piroe from a few places, it hasn’t quite worked out for him since he arrived so it’s an interesting one. I think there is quite a bit of interest from abroad but we will see how that transpires.”
Leeds United need to make Joel Piroe decision imminently
As the start of the 2024/25 Championship season is just under a month away, Farke will no doubt want to finalise his squad over the next couple of weeks.
This would allow the German to embed his philosophy into any new arrivals and perhaps even allow him to choose his tactical style for the upcoming season.
Players such as Archie Gray and Marc Roca have both departed Elland Road already, leaving the Whites’ midfield with something of a void to fill.

Indeed, Joe Rothwell was recently added to their ranks, but further reinforcement will likely be needed.
In the case of Piroe, although he only joined the club last season, his 14 goals across all competitions have left a lot to be desired.
Leeds needs a stellar number nine who is guaranteed to get the club 20+ goals per campaign, especially if the likes of Summerville and Gnonto exit this summer.
If Piroe is to stay, great. But if the 24-year-old is indeed deemed surplus to requirements, then the club could do with getting him off the books sooner rather than later.
In other Leeds news, the Whites could look at bringing in Oliver Skipp after Glen Kamara’s exit.
