Daniel Farke may have Liam Cooper problem at Leeds United after Wednesday news

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has been recalled to the Scotland squad in what could be considered a bittersweet announcement for Daniel Farke.

Cooper was named in Steve Clarke’s 25-man squad on Wednesday 4 October for Scotland’s upcoming Euro 2024 qualifier against Spain in Seville and the friendly with France in Lille.

It marks a return to the international fold for Cooper after missing the September double-header with Cyprus and England due to an injury lay-off at the time.

Indeed, Farke has done well to get the 32-year-old up to speed since then, having started him in back-to-back Championship games against Watford and Southampton.

The German is no doubt eager to manage Cooper’s minutes in the hope of avoiding any further injury setbacks.

With the centre-back set to be away for the next 10 days or so after this weekend, however, he will be relying on the Scotland staff to do that for him.

“I have to say, I’m really happy with this Liam,” Farke said this week [4 October, Leeds Live]. “But that doesn’t mean that he plays each and every second from now and starts each game.”

In an ideal world, Cooper will feature for his country in one of their two matches – both of which are prestige fixtures in their own right – and return to Leeds in a good condition to make himself available against Bristol City on 7 October.

With a host of other players travelling around the world with their national teams, though, it could lead to a few restless nights for Farke as he awaits positive news.

In other Leeds United news, Farke may want to reconsider his stance on one of his players ahead of facing QPR.
