Leeds United learn Artem Dovbyk transfer fate after latest Roma news
Leeds are one of several Premier League clubs to have been linked with a move to sign Artem Dovbyk in January.
Leeds suffered a 4-3 defeat away to Newcastle on Wednesday, though that will do little to hurt their chances of staying in the Premier League, with the Whites still eight points clear of West Ham in 18th.
However, Daniel Farke will be keen to increase their advantage, and a big part of their ability to do that will be influenced by who they can bring in this month from a recruitment perspective.
Dovbyk had been linked with a move to Elland Road as the Whites look for players to add more goals, with the latest update from Roma serving as a potential indication of the likelihood of a deal.
Leeds United may have to look elsewhere after Artem Dovbyk update
Dominic Calvert-Lewin is in the form of his life right now, with his goal against Eddie Howe’s side taking him to nine for the season.
However, neither Lukas Nmecha nor Joel Piroe has been able to contribute much in that regard, making it sensible for the Whites to target a new striker partner for the Englishman.
Given Dovbyk‘s goal-scoring record and the physicality he has to offer, it was a deal that would have made sense for all parties, though the Ukraine international has since suffered an injury.
According to Roma Giallorossi, the striker is being monitored by the medical team at Roma, with the severity of the injury yet to be revealed.
Early tests revealed a minor muscle tear in his left thigh, which may not rule him out for too long, though an official timeline has not been communicated.
However, given the short-term nature of the January transfer window, Leeds may have to move on from their interest if they are to sign a striker this month.
Which strikers have Leeds been linked to?
Taty Castellanos was linked with Leeds before his move to West Ham, though based on his debut under Nuno Espirito Santo, there will be very few tears shed over missing out on him, especially for the £26million fee.
However, the Whites have still been linked with several other attacking options, though mainly concerning players who can play anywhere in the forward line.
Danny Namaso is the latest Leeds target, with the 25-year-old typically utilised as a striker throughout his career, though also able to play as a 10 or as a winger.
He is away with Cameroon on AFCON duty at the time of writing, meaning any potential deal is likely to have to wait.
