Leeds United interest in Tyrique George makes sense after Lee Carsley admission

Leeds United may be the perfect destination for Chelsea winger Tyrique George to develop further.

Daniel Farke is looking to avoid Premier League relegation this season, and the 19-year-old could potentially be afforded regular game time at the Whites immediately.

George is being linked with a move to Elland Road as he looks for regular game time away from Stamford Bridge.

The West Yorkshire outfit are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements in January, and the England Under-21 international could be the perfect fit for them.

Lee Carsley believes George has what it takes to play as a striker after his performances for England’s youth team.

The England Under-21 manager feels the young forward can develop into a traditional number nine, and that’s something that may have caught the attention of the hierarchy at Elland Road.

With the Whites arguably lacking depth up front, it makes sense for them to look at someone like the Chelsea youngster ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Speaking to the media after England Under-21’s 1-0 win over Andorra in October, in which George scored, Carsley said: “He’s got the profile and attributes to develop into a traditional number nine.”

He added: “A lot of that development, I would imagine, will go on at Chelsea, and we have to adapt to that. He’s fast. He scores goals. He’s creative. He’s got good technique.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha’s patchy injury history will certainly give the recruitment department something to think about in January.

Enzo Maresca already doing Daniel Farke a favour

Farke has managed to turn things around at Elland Road since beating Chelsea in the Premier League on 3 December.

The German manager’s future at Leeds was up in the air after some underwhelming results in recent weeks, but Enzo Maresca’s team have given him a reprieve in LS11.

It also looks like the Italian manager is trying to push George out of the Blues, which will undoubtedly boost the West Yorkshire outfit’s chances of signing him.

The young winger hasn’t made Maresca’s Premier League squad for the last six matches, and the promise of guaranteed minutes as a striker under Farke’s new system could potentially tip the balance in the Whites’ favour come January.
