Leeds United interest in Matheus Nunes could impact Adam Forshaw Elland Road future
Leeds United have been linked with a move for Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes and that could well impact Adam Forshaw’s Elland Road future.
According to Record [26 July, pg. 09] in their print edition, Leeds are interested in the Brazilian with Sporting asking for £42.4million to sell the midfielder.
However, what does the Whites’ interest in the 23-year-old mean for 30-year-old Forshaw?

The midfielder has been at Elland Road since January 2018 and was a pivotal part in helping the Yorkshire side return to the Premier League.
He has one year left on his current deal, with the club holding an option for an extra year.
Jesse Marsch has added to his midfield this summer, with Marc Roca and Tyler Adams joining the club to help ease the blow of losing Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City.
Darko Gyabi has also joined to provide further depth in midfield in future.
It comes as a surprise to see Marsch targeting another midfielder considering the options he has at his disposal, but if another player does enter the fray then Forshaw’s position at the club could well come under threat.

He has proven himself to be more than capable of performing in the Premier League and clearly has the technical ability to do so.
Forshaw featured 21 times in the Premier League in the 2021/22 season and could easily perform well in the 2022/23 campaign.
The issue for Forshaw is that he is now past 30 and entering the final year of his current deal.
It is clear that Marsch is targeting a younger calibre of player this summer and is unlikely to offer Forshaw a new contract.
The club hierarchy would be better off investing in other problem areas such as a new striker and potentially another defensive addition.
The links to a new midfielder are surprising, and if one does come through the door at Elland Road, Forshaw’s future is certainly one to watch.
