Leeds United: Ian Poveda Elland Road exit makes room for Jesse Marsch to land striker targets

Leeds United are happy to let Ian Poveda leave Elland Road this summer and that could well allow Jesse Marsch more space to finally bring a striker into the club.

The Yorkshire Evening Post revealed (20 July) that Leeds are open to offers for the 22-year-old with a potential loan-to-buy move suggested.

Poveda could follow Jamie Shackleton and Charlie Cresswell out of Elland Road this summer and provide Marsch with even more wriggle room to play with in his budget.

Marsch has been linked with a number of forwards over the summer and the recent departures could well make room for one of two forwards to come through the door at Elland Road.

Foot Mercato reported (20 July) that the Whites are battling Aston Villa and Newcastle for Bordeaux striker Sekou Mara.

The American has also shown an interest in PSG forward Arnaud Kalimuendo with the Daily Mail reporting in their print edition (pg 142, 17 July) that the 20-year-old is his prime target.

A striker has to be next on the agenda for Leeds with adequate competition for Patrick Bamford a must for the 2022/23 Premier League season.

It is clear that a younger forward is the Leeds boss’ preference to compete with the England international for the number nine shirt.

With the recent departures at the club, surely the Whites will accelerate their push for a forward with the new Premier League season a matter of weeks away.

Leeds’ early business has been superb, but it is time for a marquee addition to really lay down a marker heading into the new season.

In other Leeds United news, the club are actively looking for help at left-back after Junior Firpo’s injury but a potential solution has come to them.
