Leeds United ‘have £20m for Kalvin Phillips transfer’ after Red Bull development

Leeds United could potentially afford a transfer for Kalvin Phillips, with the Manchester City midfielder’s return wanted at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke’s team have ensured Premier League promotion, and they’ll arguably need to strengthen their squad going into next season.

The Whites’ midfield has consisted of Joe Rothwell and Ao Tanaka for the majority of the season as the German manager has had to contend with fitness issues in his squad.

While the Bournemouth loanee has been pivotal for Farke, it remains to be seen whether the 49ers Enterprises will sanction a move for him.

Phillips return wanted at Elland Road

Phillips has been linked with a return to Elland Road, and Man City would be willing to let him go for £20million [TEAMtalk].

The England international was one of the best players at the West Yorkshire outfit under Marcelo Bielsa and got a big-money move to Pep Guardiola’s team in 2022.

Phillips’ record at the Whites.

While the 29-year-old showed immense potential at the Peacocks, he hasn’t been able to live up to standards in Manchester, spending time on loan at West Ham United and Ipswich Town.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the Whites make a move for the defensive midfielder now that they secured Premier League promotion, and they may have the funds to pull it off.

Red Bull shirt sponsorship deal to aid transfers at Leeds United

Red Bull’s front-of-shirt sponsorship terms at Elland Road will increase after Farke’s team won promotion, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet reports (29 April) that the West Yorkshire outfit will have one of the 10 most lucrative current shirt deals in the Premier League.

It should arguably provide them with the necessary funds to secure a deal and not worry too much about the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Leeds didn’t spend a lot of money in the previous two transfer windows as they seemingly believed their squad was good enough to win promotion.

While there were a few nervous spells at Elland Road this season as they looked to miss out on automatic promotion, they’ve achieved their goal.

The West Yorkshire outfit have one of the best squads in the Championship, but that arguably won’t be enough to survive the rigours of the Premier League.

Phillips hasn’t been at his best in recent seasons, but the Englishman may be able to find his feet in a familiar environment.

With Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev’s injury concerns in the current campaign, signing someone like the Man City ace would make sense to have more depth in the squad.
