Leeds United handed Josh Sargent transfer boost after what Chris Sutton said

Leeds United may have already handed a boost in their quest to sign Norwich City’s Josh Sargent this summer after what Chris Sutton said.

According to Darren Whitcoop, Daniel Farke is a “big fan” of the 24-year-old striker, having scored 16 goals in the Championship this season as the Canaries secured a spot in the play-offs.

However, Sargent has had limited challengers for his starting XI spot this season, especially with Adam Idah leaving for Celtic on a six-month loan and impressing at Celtic Park.

While the Hoops are said to be keen about signing the 23-year-old on a permanent deal, Chris Sutton believes Norwich will need a hefty fee for him to move on from Carrow Road.

Speaking via Monday Night Club on 606, transcribed by Daily Record on Tuesday (28 May), Sutton said: “The big debate at Celtic now amongst the Celtic fan base is Adam Idah.

“Adam Idah is on a long-term contract at Norwich, there was no deal in place where he would sign for Celtic at the end of the loan. Now what would you price Adam Idah at?

“And that’s the difficulty. I suspect he may be something like £7million, £8million, £9million. Norwich may want even more.”

Given the lack of major spending in the Scottish Premiership, it seems unlikely that Idah will make the permanent move to Scotland, which will provide a lot more competition at Carrow Road for Sargent.

Will Leeds United sign Josh Sargent from Norwich City this summer?

Considering Sargent’s sensational season in front of goal, the American will be unlikely to want to share minutes on the pitch ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, which could spell good news for Leeds.

If the Whites could offer consistent game time at Elland Road, this could persuade Sargent to make the switch this summer, though the club will need to raise funds first.

The financial situation for Leeds is certainly damning, having missed out on promotion to the Premier League. But with Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, Wilfried Gnonto and Archie Gray all linked with moves away, it might not be difficult to raise enough funds.
