Leeds United handed Crysencio Summerville boost as Brighton transfer development emerges

Leeds United may have just been handed a major boost in their bid to keep Crysencio Summerville this summer.

The Seagulls made their move for the 22-year-old Dutch winger last month [Fabrizio Romano, 17 June], with Leeds not expected to stand in his way should they receive an offer worth up to £40million.

However, it now seems as though they may have an even better chance of getting him to stay at Elland Road because Brighton switched their attention away from the former Feyenoord man.

Crysencio Summerville to stay at Leeds United?

New manager Fabian Hurzeler has made Yankuba Minteh his first signing at the AMEX Stadium, sealing a £33million deal for the Newcastle United teenager [Sky Sports, 30 June].

With Minteh filling the role in the squad that was seemingly being saved for Summerville, and spending the cash that may have been reserved for him too, that could now rule them out of the race for his signature.

Liverpool and Chelsea have previously been linked with a move for the 21-goal forward too, and it’s possible now that they could have a free run to seal a deal with Leeds.

However, with Archie Gray being sold to Tottenham in a £40m deal [Ben Jacobs, 1 July] including Joe Rodon returning to Elland Road, there is now no pressure to sell other assets either.

Leeds’ price could rise due to his importance to the team, although with two years remaining on his contract, they may not get a better chance to cash in for big money.

Either way, Brighton now seem to be out of the race and if Daniel Farke wants to have Summerville in his squad next season then it’s a major boost.
