Leeds United handed boost in Neco Williams chase as Nottingham Forest deliver last-gasp transfer update
Leeds United have been in desperate need of a new full-back, with Daniel Farke targeting at least one player in the position this January.
However, the Whites have suffered multiple setbacks after the departures of Luke Ayling to Middlesbrough on loan and Djed Spence after his season-long loan was ended prematurely by Leeds.
With injuries hampering the club’s remaining full-backs, Junior Firpo, Jamie Shackleton and Sam Byram, Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams has been a name linked with a move to Elland Road, as per Phil Hay.
And although the move is becoming more unlikely as the January transfer window draws on, especially being favoured by Nuno Espirito Santo, Leeds have been handed a lifeline in their quest for the Wales international.

Williams has featured a lot more heavily under Espirito Santo, following being shunned to the bench by Steve Cooper. However, now that Cooper has been sacked, the 22-year-old has been handed starts in two of the last six Forest matches in all competitions.
He has also featured as a substitute in the other four, being sent on to secure important victories against Newcastle United and Manchester United, as well as helping reach the FA Cup Fourth Round with a win over Blackpool.
Despite likely feeling happier at The City Ground now, Forest rejecting Feyenoord’s offer for Williams has given Leeds a final chance to sign one of their targets before the transfer window shuts on 1 February.
Daniel Farke has witnessed an upturn in form with his current first-choice left-back, Firpo, but the Forest player would offer a new option for him. With 36 caps for Wales already, at the age of 22, and several impressive performances, there is no doubt that Williams would be a good fit as Leeds aim for Premier League promotion.
