Leeds United good value to avoid 98-year first vs Manchester City

Leeds United welcome Manchester City to Elland Road this weekend.

With 11 games to go, Leeds United sit on 31 points and are six points ahead of West Ham, who occupy the last relegation spot.

Maintaining that gap will depend heavily on their ability to pick up results at Elland Road, and with 22 points there so far this season, they have managed to do that quite efficiently.

Man City are their next opponents this Saturday, and Daniel Farke will be looking to do everything possible to prevent the Whites from suffering something for the first time since 1928.

Man City out to do something for the second time in their history

Understandably so when taking into account the quality difference, Leeds’ record against Man City is not one to inspire a lot of optimism.

The Whites have beaten Man City once since 2004, and that was back in 2021 when a Stuart Dallas brace secured a 2-1 victory at the Etihad.

Since then, Leeds have lost four games in a row against Pep Guardiola’s side, with two of those games coming at Elland Road.

However, Saturday’s visitors have only ever won three away games on the bounce against the Whites on one occasion in their history, with those victories coming between 1924 and 1928.

Leeds will be looking to avoid a repeat of that losing run, and they may have something in their favour in their attempts to do so.

Elland Road under the lights is Leeds’ secret weapon

Technically speaking, Saturday’s game isn’t an evening clash, at least in the sense that Leeds are unbeaten in late kick-offs this season at Elland Road.

However, it will very much be a game under the lights for the Whites, and they have fared very well in those situations.

Farke’s side have only lost three times at home this season, and all three of those defeats have been 3pm kick-offs or earlier against Tottenham, Arsenal and Aston Villa.

With Erling Haaland on 22 goals for the season, stopping him will be the key for the Whites in their attempts to avoid a defeat.
