Leeds United given Fabio Carvalho transfer answer by Brentford

Leeds United will not be able to sign Fabio Carvalho in the January transfer window after Thomas Frank confirmed the midfielder is happy at Brentford.

The Whites wanted to take the 22-year-old on loan from Liverpool in the summer but were blown out of the water by Brentford’s £27.5 million bid, leading to “lots and lots of frustration”.

Daniel Farke will be frustrated in his efforts to bring Carvalho to West Yorkshire once again as Frank affirmed the Bees’ stance on a January sale in his pre-match press conference, as relayed by Leeds Live [2 December].

He said: “I can only say I’m very pleased with Fabio. He is very happy here. I speak to him, of course, every day or every week. We talk about football or personal stuff.

“He is training well. He is in a good place and I think it is just a matter of time before we see him flourish even more.

“He has come into a good team, we are performing well, we are scoring a lot of goals so I’m very, very pleased with Fabio.”

Leeds United need to give up on Fabio Carvalho

The Whites have missed out on Carvalho twice before.

He rejected a move to Elland Road to join Hull City on loan at the midway point last term [Daily Mail] after an unsuccessful spell at RB Leipzig before choosing Brentford in the summer.

Leeds were afford a slight glimmer of hope after his father Victor pleaded for his son to leave West London in a deleted Instagram reply, but Frank has poured cold water on the speculation, and despite making 10 of his 12 Premier League appearances from the bench, he will remain with Brentford.

It is a shame to see such a promising young talent wasting away in the dugout week in and week out, but Carvalho has had ample opportunity to make the switch to West Yorkshire, and it is time for Farke to move on to alternative targets.

However, it appears the German is unwilling to learn his lesson as Manchester City man James McAtee emerges as the primary target to reinforce the midfield ranks, after missing out on his signature in the summer.

Although, depth in the number 10 role has become necessary as Brendan Aaronson’s displays have fallen off a cliff as of late, he is running out of steam amid the intense workload and would benefit greatly from a deputy to share the minutes with at Elland Road.

Therefore, a new attacking midfielder will walk through the door at Thorp Arch in January – it just will not be Carvalho and maybe even not McAtee either – perhaps Farke should know when he is beaten instead of chasing dead ends and find someone who is actually available on the market and willing to play for Leeds.
