Leeds United get Joe Willock answer after shock Newcastle developments

Joe Willock has been one of several Premier League players linked with a move to Leeds.

Facundo Buonanotte remains the only first-team arrival at Elland Road, despite the Whites having been linked with a whole host of players across various areas of the squad.

Willock had been mooted for a move to Leeds United over the last few weeks, having somewhat fallen out of favour at Newcastle.

The Whites seemingly failed to turn their interest into a material offer, but now they appear to have learned their fate in their pursuit of the midfielder after what happened on Wednesday.

Joe Willock transfer reality comes clear at Elland Road

While Leeds have been gearing up to face Arsenal, several Premier League teams have been competing in the Champions League.

Erling Haaland showed his love for Leeds with a goal for Man City, and Willock scored Newcastle’s only goal of the night in their 1-1 draw with PSG.

And given the team that the North East side fielded against the Ligue 1 giants, it was a shock to see them come out of the game anything other than empty-handed.

Willock actually had the ball in the back of the net twice against PSG, though the other goal was ruled out due to an offside in the buildup.

However, after such a strong display in the Champions League, Newcastle will have second thoughts about sanctioning his exit, which could be a big blow for Leeds.

Newcastle blow could protect future of exit-linked Leeds star

Willock would have been a good addition for Leeds, given his versatility and ability to score a goal from midfield.

However, it would have pushed Ao Tanaka even further down the pecking order.

Tanaka has been linked with a move away from Leeds in the last few days, and was again named on the bench for the Whites’ draw with Everton.

However, if Leeds fail to bring another midfielder in before the deadline on Monday, then it’s highly unlikely that they would allow one to leave.

For that to benefit Tanaka, he will need to take his chance when it comes, which admittedly, looks unlikely given Farke’s favouritism with Ilia Gruev at the moment.
