Leeds United fans will love what Matt Fiztpatrick’s caddie Billy Foster did at the Ryder Cup

There is a regular retort among Leeds United supporters whenever pictures of large crowds get posted on social media.

“Leeds would have taken more”. Okay sure it might be a little cliche, and often it is said in jest as a tool to (usually successfully) wind up opposition supporters.

But, let’s be honest here, there’s also an element of truth involved. Leeds supporters are everywhere you go, it’s just a fact.

Anyone who doesn’t believe that, well all you need to do is look at what happened on day one of the Ryder Cup between Europe and the United States at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome on Friday (29 September).

Billy Foster, the noted caddy who currently carries the bag of Sheffield ace Matt Fitzpatrick, walked towards the first fee for the afternoon fourballs.

He was greeted with a great round of applause and responded by doing the famous Leeds salute (Yorkshire Evening Post, September 29). Foster was then serenaded with a chorus of “We’re all Leeds aren’t we?”

It was a brilliant, jovial moment that Leeds supporters would have loved to have seen and further proof of the reach the club has across the world of sport.

Of course, for the club themselves the focus is Saturday’s (30 September) Championship clash at Southampton, with Daniel Farke’s men aiming to make it seven league games unbeaten.

Foster will likely be a bit too preoccupied to watch the game live, of course, but here’s hoping he can catch some highlights of a Leeds win when he walks off the course.

In other Leeds United news, Phil Hay has shared a “surprised” verdict on Joe Rodon starting versus Southampton.
