Leeds United fans will be worried as details of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury record shared
Leeds United appear to be on the verge of signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin after the striker was released by Everton.
Typically, the 49ers have got their transfer business spot on when they have been in charge at but the decision to bring Calvert-Lewin to West Yorkshire has certainly raised some eyebrows.
It’s no secret that Leeds need to sign another striker before their Premier League campaign, but bringing the 28-year-old to Elland Road free looks like a panic signing for United.
Calvert-Lewin’s form and injury record make for tough reading, and Leeds supporters have correctly raised their concerns regarding a potential deal.

Calvert-Lewin’s worrying injury record
In Patrick Bamford, Leeds have been used to having an injury-prone striker who has failed to regain his form over the years, and now they bizarrely look set to bring in another one.
Similar to Bamford, Calvert-Lewin is a ‘one-season wonder’ in the Premier League, with both players having their one prolific campaign massively outweighed by numerous frustrating seasons in the top-flight.
Following the former Evertonian’s 16 Premier League goal season in 2020/21, the forward has only managed 17 league goals in total since.
They say the best ability a player can have is availability, and on top of his poor goal-scoring record, Calvert-Lewin has an even worse injury record.
Season | Total games missed through injury |
2021/22 | 33 |
2022/23 | 29 |
2023/24 | 6 |
2024/25 | 15 |

Leeds still need another striker
Even if Calvert-Lewin passes his medical at Thorp Arch, Leeds still need to bring in another striker.
Worryingly, when the striker has been fit and ready, he has been poor for four seasons now, and this move does not make any sense.
The former England international is a notoriously poor finisher, consistently underperforming his expected goals throughout his career.
- The towering forward scored three league goals from an xG of 6.75 last season
However, it is unlikely that Calvert-Lewin would come on what is likely to be big money to be a rotation option, meaning Farke looks as though his forward options for the season will be:
- Joel Piroe
- Dominic Calvert-Lewin
- Lukas Nmecha
If Leeds do go down, which is extremely likely if they enter the season with these three as their options up top, come May, this deal for Calvert-Lewin will be a key reason why.
