Leeds United fans will be raging over who could now replace Daniel Farke at Elland Road

Daniel Farke is walking on thin ice at Elland Road, and with the German potentially facing the sack, supporters won’t like who Leeds United have lined up to replace him.

Leeds were beaten 3-2 by Manchester City on Saturday, and as a result, extended their losing run in the Premier League to four matches.

Unsurprisingly, with the Whites sitting in 18th position, Farke is being placed under immense pressure to keep his job, and many names have been touted to succeed him.

Brendan Rodgers has been linked with Leeds following his departure from Celtic in October, while another name has popped onto their radar.

Gary O’Neil could replace Daniel Farke at Elland Road

According to talkSPORT, Gary O’Neil has emerged as a contender to replace Farke ahead of Leeds’ showdown with Chelsea on Wednesday night.

The 42-year-old has been out of work since Wolves sacked him in December 2024, following a run of just two wins from his opening 16 Premier League matches in 2024/25.

O’Neil has since been linked to numerous top-flight jobs and was even touted with a return to Molineux before Rob Edwards replaced Vitor Pereira in November.

Now, the former West Ham midfielder could see a switch to Leeds as a possible comeback chance in management, and it’s something supporters surely wouldn’t welcome.

O’Neil’s record in management is worrying

During his short time in management, O’Neil’s biggest achievements have been keeping Bournemouth in the Premier League in 2023 after replacing Scott Parker and then doing the same with Wolves in 2024.

The Englishman masterminded top-flight survival on two separate occasions, after joining when both sides were occupying the relegation places.

100 games
31 wins
17 draws
52 losses

So, the Leeds hierarchy may see O’Neil as a potential survival specialist and an upgrade on Farke, who has a poor Premier League record.

That being said, given how things unravelled at Wolves with a quality squad, appointing the former Cherries boss should be seen as a huge risk.

O’Neil would need time to stamp his philosophy onto the squad in a short space of time, while winning supporters over instantly, something he’s often failed to achieve.
