Leeds United fans given much-needed clarity amid Elland Road update

The confirmation that Elland Road is now owned by Leeds United Football Club Limited has provided supporters will much-needed clarity.

United confirmed on their official website (10 July) that the stadium’s ownership company, Elland Road Limited, was now in control of the club itself, completing a transaction that first began in March.

Previous chairman Andrea Radrizzani had bought the ground as part of his Aser Group, which also owned the club itself, before Elland Road Limited was formed as a new company in December 2020.

However, even after the Italian had sold the Whites to 49ers Enterprises in July 2023, the two limited companies representing the club and stadium had remained separate entities.

Elland Road purchase allows Leeds United to move forwards

Nearly 20 years have passed since the financially-embattled Gerald Krasner regime was forced to sell Elland Road in order to keep the club’s head above water, marking the start of their EFL wilderness years.

However, the 49ers’ buyout of the club following relegation from the Premier League saw them purchase Elland Road Limited, and the stadium with it, finally putting this long-awaited reunion on a clear course.

The 49ers reportedly have big plans for Elland Road in terms of redevelopment, and having both club and stadium both owned under one roof will certainly help in their quest to achieve this.

Red Bull’s recent investment in the club can surely only help to speed this along, but the most important factor will undoubtedly be making a swift return to the Premier League after last season’s play-off final defeat.
