Leeds United deserve praise as Marius Wolf transfer news emerges

Leeds United want to sign Marius Wolf from Borussia Dortmund if they are promoted from the Premier League in a move which deserves praise for its proactivity.

Florian Plettenberg has reported (20 May) that the Whites see him as a “serious option” if they are promoted as his contract expires in the summer.

Daniel Farke’s side are preparing to face Southampton at Wembley Stadium on Sunday (26 May) needing a win to secure a place in the Premier League.

Leeds look like they want to prepare for the division change early to give themselves the best chance of survival. This has to be commended.

Leeds United want Marius Wolf for free this summer

The German is out of contract with the Champions League finalists at the end of the season with him set to depart Dortmund.

The German is a full-back who likes to get forward where he can. With 2.84 shot-creating actions, 2.95 progressive carries and 6.70 progressive passes received [Fbref], his attacking intent is clear.

He is slightly let down by his defensive qualities which may become an issue as a starter in the Premier League for Leeds.

Discussing the potential signing, talkSPORT journalist Tom Clayton suggested that Wolf would be “a great addition” should the Whites be promoted.

It is clear that Farke wants to move quickly in the transfer window to prepare his squad potentially for Premier League football.

Last summer, all but one signing was made in August or later. With the season beginning on 6 August, this was too late to create a squad quickly, as Daniel Farke learned the hard way.

With Wolf looking like a player that Leeds may sign early and on a free transfer, it could point towards a shrewd summer for the club.
