Leeds United denied Valentin Castellanos transfer as City Group take over

After six new signings this summer, Leeds United have made a big dent into their plans for the window but they still have more to do.

One position they are keen to improve is the striker and one player the Whites were interested in was New York City talisman Valentin Castellanos and they were even leading the race for his signature on 13 June [Dean Jones, Give Me Sport].

But the 2021 MLS golden boot winner is now looking likely to head elsewhere because Leeds have not made any offer near to what his current club value him at.

As a result of our hesitance, the City Group – which owns Manchester City, New York City and a host of other clubs across the world – have stepped in and taken matters into their own hands, according to Fabrizio Romano.

“Taty Castellanos is expected to join City Group side Girona very soon, final details to be discussed in the next days,” Romano said via his personal Twitter account.

“MLS star prepared to leave NY in order to try new La Liga experience. Negotiations in progress, City Group now rejecting other proposals.”

You can’t imagine that the Argentine himself would have rejected Leeds United to play in La Liga for Girona so we must have never really been in the race at all which is a big shame.

Especially with Jesse Marsch at the helm and his contacts in the MLS, you would have hoped that their star player would be in close contact with us in one way or another but nothing has ever materialised and that is why the City group monopoly have taken over.

As they own both NYCFC and Girona, they are able to shift him from one club to the other with little fuss and he could eventually make it to the Eithad if he lives up to the hype from across the pond.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are said to be involved in a bidding war for this striking sensation who has found a new lease of life.
