Leeds United decision v Sheffield Wednesday to upset fans after what Farke said

Daniel Farke is bound to make multiple changes to his Leeds United XI following their 1-0 win over Harrogate Town on Saturday.

A much-changed side saw the likes of Isaac Schmidt, Josuha Guilavogui and Karl Darlow given rare starts on 11 January, with a single Largie Ramazani goal proving the difference against League Two opposition.

However, with Joe Rodon, Ao Tanaka, Junior Firpo, Dan James and Ilia Gruev all coming on from the bench, these players are all likely to start when facing Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday 19 January.

One massive decision that Farke will need to make ahead of the Elland Road clash is the goalkeeper selection, with Illan Meslier at an all-time low with confidence and Darlow making just one league start this season so far.

Considering what Farke said after the FA Cup win on Saturday, the manager has likely already decided who will be between the sticks next weekend.

Illan Meslier to return for Leeds United v Sheffield Wednesday

Speaking to the media, quoted by Beren Cross [11 January], Farke said: “Aways difficult when you are not involved and then come in. When he does not catch a cross or the pass is not perfect, everyone gets nervous in the stadium.

“That’s normal. He caught a good cross. He switched on to come out and make sure there was no counter. Really professional.”

Listening to the manager’s thoughts, fans might assume that Darlow had a poor performance against Harrogate, but those watching the game were in complete disagreement.

One supporter has already accused Farke of trying to force Meslier back into the lineup by slating the Welshman, but if he decided to switch the goalkeepers once again, fans could be furious.

The 24-year-old made a disastrous blunder during the 3-3 draw against Hull City last time out, allowing the Tigers back into the game despite winning 3-1 with 10 minutes remaining.

This is not the first time Meslier has made a costly error, fumbling against Sunderland earlier this season, and supporters are becoming more and more impatient with him.

Despite this, Farke continues to trust him in between the sticks, and if this proves to be the case against the Owls next weekend, fans have already voiced their anger at the potential change.
