Leeds United dealt with yet another transfer blow as medical booked on Monday

Leeds United have been hit with another transfer blow as Bashir Humphreys is set to snub a move to Elland Road.

The BBC Sport journalist reported that the 21-year-old Chelsea centre-back is set to move to Burnley on a loan with an obligation to buy.

He will be signing a five-year deal at Turf Moor and will undergo his medical on 19 August.

Fabrizio Romano, a transfer specialist reported to GIVEMESPORT that the Whites wanted to sign the Exter born defender.

Kinsella wrote on X: “Bashir Humphreys is set to complete a move to Burnley on an initial loan with an obligation to buy. He’s set to sign a five-year deal and will be at Turf Moor today. Medical on Monday.”

Leeds United miss out on Bashir Humphreys’ transfer

Humphreys, at 21, embodies the kind of young, promising talent Leeds have been targeting to rejuvenate their squad, particularly in defence where depth and potential are crucial.

His experience in the Championship with Swansea last season would have provided immediate impact and familiarity with the league’s demands.

The centre-back’s versatility to play across the backline could have alleviated Leeds’ concerns over positional cover, especially with the uncertainty around other defenders’ futures.

Moreover, his potential as an England U21 international adds a layer of quality and future value, which the Whites could have capitalised on for both the present and future campaigns.

The move to Burnley not only deprives Leeds of a player who could grow into a key asset but also strengthens a direct rival, potentially tipping the balance in promotion races or future encounters.

This development leaves Leeds scrambling for alternative options in a transfer market where such versatile, young talents are scarce.
