Leeds United dealt transfer blow as behind-the-scenes Gustavo Hamer update emerges

Leeds United have barely strengthened this summer, with only Ethan Ampadu and Karl Darlow arriving at Elland Road so far.

The new duo will undoubtedly play crucial roles for the Whites in all competitions next season under new manager Daniel Farke.

But the German will need more than just the new Leeds pair if the West Yorkshire club are to have any hope of achieving immediate promotion back to the Premier League.

One player that has been targeted is Coventry City ace Gustavo Hamer, with the Whites plotting a “very ambitious” swoop for the midfielder, according to Football League World (10 June).

But that potential swoop has not resulted in a move just yet, with Leeds now dealt a blow in their pursuit of the 26-year-old as an update from Sky Sports emerges.

“Coventry midfielder Gustavo Hamer is training as normal and preparing for Sunday’s season opener – a Midlands derby against recently relegated Leicester,” according to Sky Sports.

“This is amid interest from a number of other clubs, including several in the Premier League.”

Not only is the versatile player getting on with life at Coventry, but he is also reportedly being pursued by several top flight clubs, meaning Leeds really do have a battle on their hands when it comes to his signature this summer.

Following their relegation from the Premier League, midfielders Marc Roca, Weston McKennie and Adam Forshaw have all moved on, leaving quite a big gap in the middle of the pitch.

There is no doubt Hamer would be a welcome addition at Elland Road, particularly following the aforementioned exits, but a summer switch to the Whites is looking increasingly unlikely.

It’s a massive blow for Farke, who gets his Leeds tenure underway on Sunday (6 August) when Cardiff City travel to Elland Road.
