Leeds United dealt major blow in Bright Osayi-Samuel chase as ‘flash decision’ made in last 48 hours
Leeds United have been dealt a major blow in their chase to sign Fenerbahce star Bright Osayi-Samuel after he agreed to sign a new contract.
The Whites have long been linked with a move for the Nigeria international, and reports from Turkey last week suggest that Daniel Farke’s side tabled a £7m bid to bring him in for the 2024/25 season.
Fenerbahce deferred talks until the summer while they wait for the end of the season, with the player set to enter the final 12 months of his deal in Istanbul.
But after talks were held between the player, club and his representatives a new four-year deal has been agreed and the winger is set to stay – meaning Leeds United won’t be signing their man.
Leeds United must be planning in advance
It’s going to be a crazy summer transfer window at Elland Road, regardless of whether the team make it back to the promised land with the Premier League or if they’re stuck in the Championship.
Should they go back up big decisions will need to be made on the squad, and it’s clear that the manager has already identified key positions within the squad that he wants to strengthen.
Osayi-Samuel is a fine player and has the attributes that would see him fit well into the Elland Road squad under Farke, so it’s a huge blow to the squad that their early plans have been disrupted in this way.

The club now have to go back to the drawing board and plan their next move, because they can’t afford to fall too far behind.
Decisions must be made quickly so everyone knows what the plan is regardless of which division they’re playing in, and moves can be made to ensure the club is in the perfect position to push on when the new campaign begins.
