Leeds United could profit from rivals’ error if transfer is pulled off

Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch is already searching for new signings ahead of next season and one of his targets is making big waves in the Championship.

Midfielder James Garner, 21, has become a vital cog in the machine at Nottingham Forest this season having joined on loan from Manchester United to inspire the Reds to a promotion race.

The Daily Mail reports that Leeds are closely monitoring Garner’s situation at his parent club, who could be willing to sell the Englishman in the summer.

He might not be the glamorous player the Red Devils desire but to think that they are considering letting him leave seems bizarre given how well he has played this season.

According to the ratings given to Garner by WhoScored.com, he averages over a seven out of ten this season in all of the games he has started which is something not many have been able to do.

He may only have three goals and four assists for Steve Cooper’s side this season but his all-around game is so much more than just attacking contributions.

He would fit perfectly alongside Kalvin Phillips in the Leeds United with a similar tenacity and energy coupled with a truly deadly set-piece ability that rivals the best the Premier League has to offer.

An 80% pass completion rate would be far higher if he wasn’t the delegated free-kick and corner taker but even then he often finds his teammates with his pinpoint accuracy.

Garner’s style of play, according to Who Scored, includes getting fouled often and liking to tackle which sounds like the perfectly engineered Leeds player.

If Manchester United are mad enough to let him leave Old Trafford to build his career elsewhere then the Whites have to be ready to commit big to entice him across the Pennines to LS11.

In other Leeds United news, this in-demand ace could become the highest earner at Elland Road if he accepts a new deal.
