Leeds United could have Charles De Ketelaere door opened as Brugge near replacement

Jesse Marsch has nearly completed his 2022 summer transfer business but he has one more player to add to his Leeds United squad.

The Whites announced the signing of Feyenoord winger Luis Sinisterra on Wednesday (6 July) as their sixth new addition of the transfer window and the final piece of the jigsaw could be Club Brugge attacker Charles De Ketelaere, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The 21-year-old has been the spearhead of the Belgian champions’ attack over the past two seasons and his exit would have left that very short in attack but they are making moves to prevent that scenario.

According to Fabrizio Romano via Twitter, Brugge are nearing the signing of Kosovan international striker Vedat Muriqi from Lazio for a reported fee of £9.3million.

Should Muriqi sign on the dotted line for the Belgian side, who will play Champions League football again in the 2022-23 season, then De Ketelaere may then be given the license to leave the club.

That is very good news for Marsch and Leeds because they are one of only two teams properly in the race to sign the Belgian international.

Leeds United

The one issue they do have is that their rivals in the transfer tussle is Italian champions AC Milan who can offer him Champions League football rather than just domestic competition as we can.

Where Leeds United can gain the upper hand is in the money being thrown around by the Premier League and their recent £45million income boost via the sale of Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City.

With the door now open to go and sign De Ketelaere, we really should spend a big portion of that transfer income on the 21-year-old because we will not get a better player for cheaper.

In other Leeds United news, one of our star players will not be heading to Australia on our pre-season tour.
