Leeds United could do themselves a favour after transfer news from Elland Road
Leeds United have changed their team massively since last season with several players both exiting and arriving at Elland Road.
Players such as Crysencio Summerville and academy graduate Archie Gray were shipped off to Premier League teams, while others such as Joe Rodon and Largie Ramazani entered the first-team fold.
The Whites currently sit second in the Championship and, thanks to their 2-0 victory over Derby on Saturday, they’re now just one point adrift of league leaders Sheffield United.
One question that has been hanging over the heads of all those involved with the club, however, is where the future of Junior Firpo likely lies.
Why is the future of Junior Firpo being brought into question at Leeds United?
The left-back’s contract expires at the end of the season and while he may be sidelined due to injury at the moment, he’s been an important player for the West Yorkshire outfit thus far.
But, if his last Premier League experience is anything to go off of, Leeds could well be better allowing him to leave and perhaps scour the market for a new left-back.
Which, after a recent report from Turkish outlet Fotospor (7 December), is exactly what they could end up doing with Besiktas among those interested.
“The name that the scout team, who worked with him in the previous period, has caught the eye of is Junior Firpo, the Spanish left-back of Leeds United from the Championship team,” they wrote.
“He wants to evaluate the conditions for the Dominican player, who was trained in the Barça youth academy.
“What excited Yücel and the scout [of Besiktas] team during this period was the three-match ban that Firpo received for headbutting an opponent a few weeks ago.
“Sponsors, especially the companies that sponsor such transfers, are holding back on transfers of such problematic players.
“Therefore, if Beşiktaş wants to buy Firpo in January, they may come across very interesting figures since his contract will also expire at the end of the season. A left back who pleases the fans may come.”
Indeed, at the moment the Dominican Republic international is the Whites’ starting left-back and is among the most important players in the squad.

But, if Leeds gain promotion and make the step up to the Premier League, it’s unclear whether he has what it takes to compete against the likes of Mohammed Salah and Jarrod Bowen.
His last season in the top flight ended disastrously, and his performances left the West Yorkshire outfit in the lurch more than once.
Only time will tell if Farke allows Firpo to leave but if he does, it could be the best thing for the team.
In other Leeds news, Jeff Stelling was left stunned by the claims Ally McCoist made about the Whites.
