Leeds United: Charlie Crew must be close to senior debut after what he did last night
Daniel Farke must be considering handing Charlie Crew his Leeds United debut after the youth team’s heroics against Millwall on Thursday (4 April).
The 17-year-old midfielder was involved in a 4-3 FA Youth Cup thriller, scoring to put the Whites 2-1 up in front of 10,000 fans at Elland Road before starring until the 86th minute.
Though Crew was spotted limping off the pitch after a superb performance, it is unlikely to be something that puts the teenager out of action for very long.
Farke is clearly impressed by the U18s sensation, having been involved in the matchday squads for the 2-2 draw with Watford and 3-1 victory over Hull City, but has not been brought on as a substitute as of yet.
While the German is very particular about his midfield pairings, with Ethan Ampadu, Archie Gray, Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara creating some formidable partnerships, Crew could be next in line to be given a chance.
Could Charlie Crew make his Leeds United debut this season?
Leeds are attempting to claim promotion straight back to the Premier League this season, battling against Leicester City and Ipswich Town for the Championship top spot.
Considering the incredible amount of energy, desire and passion involved in the Whites’ performances this season, substitutions have played a vital role for Farke, and Crew may be hoping that plays to his advantage.
The likes of Gray, Wilfried Gnonto and Mateo Joseph show that the Leeds manager is happy to put his trust in the youngsters at Elland Road, a decision that has paid off majorly this season.
With just six matches of the Championship campaign remaining, time is running out for the teenager to be handed his senior debut. But with the number of injuries occurring, mainly due to the tight schedule and intensity, Crew could be called upon.
The 17-year-old is definitely ready, despite still playing his football for the U18s. If one of the midfielders is injured before the end of the season, Crew will undoubtedly be considered for his debut.
In other Leeds news, Farke has addressed calls for young striker Mateo Joseph to start ahead of Patrick Bamford against Coventry this weekend.
