Leeds United already informed club-record fee needed to sign ‘top-quality’ striker

Leeds United’s January transfer window has sprung into life.

Leeds confirmed the signing of Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton on Thursday, and the 21-year-old could soon be joined by another fresh face.

Farke is in the market for a new centre-forward, and Leeds have made an approach to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolves.

The West Yorkshire side are yet to make a bid for the Norwegian international, but with the Old Gold staring down the barrel of relegation, they could struggle to hold onto him.

Wolves want £40m for Jorgen Strand Larsen

Leeds looked doomed for the drop like Wolves at the start of December; however, going unbeaten in seven of their last eight matches has seen them pull eight points clear.

Wolves, on the other hand, are rooted to the bottom of the table on seven points and a whopping 14 from safety.

So, with Rob Edwards’ men preparing for the Championship, they could be willing to sanction an exit for Strand Larsen.

Unfortunately for Leeds, when West Ham were linked with the 25-year-old in December, they were quoted a whopping £40million for the towering centre-forward, according to The Guardian.

Should Strand Larsen command the same fee this month, the Peacocks would have to break their transfer record to sign him, and with PSR hanging over their heads, that is unlikely.

Leeds record signings

Strand Larsen – who Edwards dubbed as ‘top-quality’ – has seen his stock plummet in the past six months, going from netting 12 Premier League goals in 2024/25 to only once in 19 appearances this term.

As such, it seems ludicrous that Wolves are demanding £40m for the Norwegian, and stumping up that amount would see Leeds smash their transfer record.

Leeds United’s five most expensive arrivals
Georginio Rutter £35.5m, Jan 2023
Rodrigo Moreno £26m, Aug 2020
Dan James £25m, Aug 2021
Brenden Aaronson £24.7m, May 2022
Luis Sinisterra £21m, July 2022

Georginio Rutter’s £35.5m move from Hoffenheim in January is their current record, closely followed by Rodrigo Moreno, Dan James and Brenden Aaronson.

PSR issues at Elland Road could instantly put an end to their chances of breaking that record, or even signing Strand Larsen in general.

However, an opportunity to sign him for cheaper in the summer could arise once Wolves are relegated and desperate to ease the stress of an inflated wage bill.
